Jig Construction
A steel jig is dimensioned and built to stand the frames. We build all of our vessels upright and have done so for the last 25 years. We have proven (for ourselves) the advantages with this method and it is now very easy to do with 100% accuracy.
Hull Construction:
Frame assembly: Construction of the main structural frames (bulkheads) using 4mm aluminum plate or if CNC cut we clean them up and install rider bars where required. Everything is tacked only at this stage and pretty much until the boat is assembled.
Stringer installation: Installation of the keel and then the longitudinal stringers to the frames to provide structural support.
We then install our keel bearers which are bolted to the concrete floor. All dimensions are double, sometimes triple checked and level is checked often.
Once the first hull is complete and mounted on its bearers we move the jig to the correct position for fabrication of the second hull. At this time we also install a steel frame to support the bridge deck and the three bridge deck beams.
With the second hull keel, frames and longitudinals fitted and tacked we install the bearers and remove the steel hull jig.
To be continued – Plating: Cut and shape aluminum sheets to fit the hull and tack them to the frames and longitudinals.
Deck and superstructure: Build the deck and superstructure using similar techniques.
